Job Posting – Wisconsin Licensed Funeral Director

Piasecki Funeral Home, located in Kenosha, Wisconsin, is looking for a compassionate and skilled full-time Wisconsin Licensed Funeral Director to join our dedicated team. We provide comprehensive funeral and cremation services to over 300 families each year.

The ideal candidate will have a confident, outgoing personality, a strong desire to learn and share knowledge, and the ability to teach and mentor both co-workers and families. Proficiency in web-based computer software is essential. Additionally, we seek someone who demonstrates patience, compassion, emotional stability, and excellent organizational skills.

 

Position Overview

As a Funeral Director at Piasecki Funeral Home, you will be responsible for the planning, organization, and management of all aspects of funeral services. This includes meeting with families to make arrangements, coordinating with various service providers, and ensuring that all services meet the specific needs and wishes of the families we serve.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Meet with families to discuss funeral arrangements and accommodate their requests.
  • Provide clear explanations of pricing and product options to families and friends.
  • Order necessary merchandise such as caskets, vaults, and other funeral items.
  • Coordinate participants in the funeral service, including pallbearers, readers, and musicians.
  • Process payments for services and ensure all financial transactions are handled accurately.
  • Ensure all funeral, memorial, and visitation/gathering setups adhere to the families' wishes.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the funeral home.
  • Oversee the transportation of the decedent’s remains to the church and cemetery.
  • Address any family issues or complaints with sensitivity and professionalism.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with vendors, church officials, and cemetery personnel.
  • Embalm and prepare the deceased for viewing, including applying cosmetics and dressing.
  • Perform special procedures for remains requiring transportation or in cases of infectious diseases.
  • Maintain detailed records, including itemized lists of clothing, valuables, and first-call notes.
  • Utilize web-based funeral home management software throughout all service stages.
  • Assist with the placement of caskets into transport vehicles and organize fleet vehicles for processions.
  • Serve as a pallbearer and provide support to bereaved families as needed.
  • Manage funeral home equipment and perform general maintenance tasks.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to Funeral Director Apprentices.

 

Qualifications

  • Physical Requirements: Must pass a post-offer, pre-placement functional test to evaluate the ability to perform essential job functions, including lifting and moving deceased individuals and handling mortuary equipment.
  • Skills: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, empathy, and compassion. Must communicate effectively and calmly with bereaved families and co-workers.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, email, digital scheduling applications, and web-based funeral home management software.
  • Leadership: Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor apprentices and work well with a team.
  • Cultural Competence: Willingness to accommodate various religious and cultural funeral service practices.
  • Embalming and Burial Knowledge: Must have thorough knowledge of embalming techniques and burial services.

 

Education and Experience

  • Recent graduates of mortuary science programs are welcome to apply; no previous experience as a licensed Funeral Director is required.
  • Must be licensed as a Funeral Director in the State of Wisconsin (required).
  • Licensure as a Funeral Director in the State of Illinois is preferred and required within two years of hire.

 

Work Environment

The role involves time in the office meeting with families, preparing the deceased in the prep room, and leading/coordinating visitations, funeral services, and funeral processions. The position includes an on-call rotation for first calls, 1-2 nights per week and every 2-3 weekends, depending on family needs and call volume. A typical work week is 40 hours, but hours may vary.

 

Compensation & Benefits
