Licensed Apprentice Funeral Director

Ryan Funeral Home, the oldest and only fourth-generation family-owned funeral home in Madison, WI, has been serving the community since 1938. Founded by Paul Ryan, the funeral home has always focused on compassionate care and experienced guidance to help families create meaningful tributes. Three of the four Ryan family generations are still actively involved.

Position Overview

Looking for a personable and confident individual who is eager to learn and contribute to a dedicated team.

• Ability to talk with families and assist with funeral arrangements
• Help to plan and facilitate services and visitations
• Assisting with embalming, cosmetic preparation, cremations and care of the deceased
• Prepare and care for the deceased, including embalming, dressing, and casketing
• Maintain funeral home cleanliness and readiness for services
• Help design, personalize and print necessary paper products for services
• Participate in removals and transportation of the deceased
• Other tasks as necessary.

• Willingness to work nights and weekends. 
• Enrollment in, or recent graduate of, an accredited mortuary science program (or commitment to enroll within 3 months)
• Ability to obtain a Wisconsin Funeral Director Apprentice license within 2 months of hire
• No prior apprentice experience required—ideal for students beginning their career

Work Schedule & Environment

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position that provides exposure to all areas of funeral service.

On-call shifts for call are 1–2 nights per week, as well as participate in a rotating weekend schedule shared among licensed team members.

Compensation

Wages are competitive and negotiable based on experience and licensure status.
