Licensed Funeral Director

Piasecki Funeral Home - Kenosha, WI
Full-time
Salary: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 Annually
Application Deadline: N/A
Funeral Service

WHO WE ARE

Piasecki Funeral Home has served the Kenosha community since 1931. For nearly a century, the Piasecki family built something rare: a funeral home rooted not in commerce, but in calling and ministry. A place where grieving families were met with genuine compassion, treated with dignity, and cared for as if they were family. That legacy was not passed on lightly, and it is not carried forward lightly.

We do not use the word "work" to describe what we do here. We serve. We do not talk about "employees" or "staff." We are a team and, in many ways, a family. The people who are part of this team come through the door every day because they understand the sacred responsibility of walking alongside families in their most vulnerable moments. That understanding shapes everything: how we treat each other, how we make decisions, and what we expect from the people who join us.

Our culture is intentionally warm and deeply professional. Leadership here is present, invested, and genuinely committed to creating an environment where every member of this team is valued, supported, and proud of the service they provide together. We give freely of ourselves for each other, because we know that same generosity will be returned. That is not a rule. It is a reflection of who we are.

You will also have a colleague you may not expect: K9 Millie, our certified therapy dog, who serves alongside our team every day. K9 Millie brings comfort and calm to the families we serve, and she lifts the spirit of our team as well. She is a reflection of our commitment to caring for everyone who walks through our doors, including the people who serve beside her.

If you are an Illinois-licensed funeral director, we welcome your application. Wisconsin reciprocity is available, and we will work with you through the licensing process.

THE ROLE

We are seeking one or two full-time Licensed Funeral Directors to join our growing team. As we continue to expand our capacity to serve Kenosha-area families, we are building our director team to match. These are fully supported positions with genuine autonomy and clear expectations. Our incoming directors will take ownership of their responsibilities on the call rotation and in the arrangement room, supported by two Funeral Director Apprentices on staff. New graduates of mortuary science programs are encouraged to apply.

You will be involved in every aspect of funeral service, including:

  • Meeting with families to plan and arrange funeral and cremation services
  • Embalming and preparation of the deceased for viewing
  • Conducting funeral services, graveside services, and memorial services
  • Coordinating all service details including clergy, musicians, pallbearers, and cemetery personnel
  • Managing merchandise ordering, payment processing, and service documentation
  • Facilitating personalization and creative tribute arrangements for families
  • Overseeing transportation of the deceased to church, cemetery, and other locations
  • Operating web-based funeral home management software throughout the full service cycle
  • Mentoring and precepting Funeral Director Apprentices
  • Performing special procedures for remains being transported out of state or overseas

SCHEDULE

We believe your time away from work matters. Our call rotation is structured so that every director has regular, predictable time off. In general terms:

  • On-call weeknights rotate among the director team, typically 1 to 2 nights per week per director.
  • Weekend on-call follows a four-week rotation. Every other weekend, you are completely off. That means Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. A full three-day weekend, every other rotation, with no on-call obligations.
  • A weekday off is scheduled each week to offset weekend on-call obligations.

The specifics of the rotation are discussed during the interview process and are designed to work fairly for everyone on the team. As our director team grows, the rotation only improves.

COMPENSATION

Annual salary: $60,000 to $70,000, dependent on experience and credentials. This is a straight salary structure with no ambiguity about what you will earn.

Benefits include:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance: Piasecki pays 50% of your premium
  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance: fully employer-paid
  • Simple Roth IRA with 3% employer matching contribution
  • Two weeks paid vacation in your first year
  • $2,500 annual continuing education stipend for conferences, events, registration, and travel
  • All license renewal fees, OSHA training, and required CE credits paid by Piasecki
  • Continuing education time off is provided separately and does not reduce your paid vacation balance

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The right candidate for this role is someone who genuinely loves this profession and the people it serves. Beyond licensure, we are looking for:

  • Wisconsin Funeral Director License, or Illinois Funeral Director License with the ability to obtain Wisconsin reciprocity
  • Mortuary science degree
  • Patience, empathy, and emotional stability under pressure
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with web-based funeral home management software and Microsoft Office. The ability to work fluidly with digital tools on both a computer and a mobile device is essential to this role.
  • Willingness to accommodate a range of religious and cultural service traditions
  • Post-offer, pre-placement functional test: Pass a functional-based examination used to evaluate your ability to perform essential job functions such as lifting the deceased, removing the deceased from their location of death, and movement of caskets and other mortuary equipment.
  • Willingness to reside within 30 minutes of our funeral home to ensure timely response to first calls
  • No prior experience as a licensed director is required. New graduates are welcome.
